Republicans used to believe that government shouldn’t pick winners and losers in the economy …
That was supposed to be the job of their god, “the free market.”
Now, having given pointless tax breaks to Harley Davidson to save jobs the company eliminated anyway, Trump is planning to order electricity grid operators to buy coal generated electricity … despite the fact that it is not only dirty, it is also more expensive than natural gas, wind and solar.
Meanwhile, the market has spoken, and natural gas is not only way cheaper than coal, there are also more jobs in the US in solar than in coal.
But Republicans just go along, violating every principle they’ve claimed to believe in for the last forty years.
This analysis is really straightforward and I appreciate that there’s no editorializing here – it’s just reporting the numbers, trends, and likelihood.
I’ll editorialize real quick tho: STACEY ABRAMS CAN ABSOLUTELY WIN.
Elections, especially in purple-leaning states like Georgia with questionable electoral maps, do not come down to demographic size. Those outcomes rest on turnout. We already know national elections are decided on turnout because the voter population size is roughly equal for Democrats and Republicans. The same goes for a state like Georgia. The difference in sheer numbers on either side isn’t large enough to decide an election.
The deciding factor is how many people actually went to vote, and a figure like Stacey Abrams should inspire A LOT of liberal couch-sitters to actually get up and go cast a vote. Conservative couch-sitters will also be inspired to vote just to ensure a Black woman does not run their state and tell them what to do, but Abrams should be able to convince more people what a momentous occasion this is that she’s even on the ballot.
Stacey Abrams would be the first Black governor of Georgia, the first female Governor of Georgia, and the first Black female governor in the history of the US. This win is not out of reach for her. All she has to do is convince more voters to actually get up and go vote.
