It’s that time of year again! The past two years of Clexa Secret Santa have been a smashing success with a combined total of over 300 people participating (!) so I’ve decided to organize it again this year!
For those of you who may be new to the fandom, didn’t know about this event the past two years, or are just excited to participate again…keep reading!
What the heck is Clexa Secret Santa?
A Tumblr twist on the traditional ‘Secret Santa’ game. Instead of exchanging material items, the idea is to spread some love and positive energy throughout the fandom. If you sign up to participate, you will be randomly assigned a fellow Clexakru member who you will be a “Secret Santa” for. You will also be assigned to a fellow Clexakru member who will be your “Secret Santa”. This means that during the course of the event you will be both sending and receiving some much needed love and positive energy!
I’m intrigued…if I participate what do I have to do?
From December 1st until the 31st, your primary goal is to send your assigned Clexakru member some anonymous love to their inbox as often as you are able to or want to. Ask them questions, send them silly jokes or poems, send them ficlets or headcanons, talk to them – what you do is up to you! Just keep it positive 🙂 Make sure to sign off on everything you send anonymously(!!!) as their “Secret Santa” so they know it’s you! Your secondary goal is to interact with and respond to (as often as you are able to!) your own Secret Santa as they send you things!
I’m not sure if I have the time…
There is no minimum amount of participation required! A message here or there when you have time and are online is perfectly acceptable! This is not a giant, time-consuming commitment. That being said, if you sign up to participate in Clexa Secret Santa, it would be really nice if you, ya know, participated (I don’t want any sad messages from people who haven’t heard from their Santa even once over the course of the event).
The Big Reveal
If you are feeling really creative, it would be super awesome if you made your person a gift to close out the event! If you’re an artist, draw them a picture! If you’re an author, write them a short fic! Are you a photoshop pro? Make them a cool graphic! Like music or making videos? Make them a playlist or a video! Or come up with some other cool thing for them!
At the end of Clexa Secret Santa (on or around December 30th – there’s no hard deadline though – feel free to do it whenever you feel comfortable/would like to), submit or post your gift (or just reach out with a friendly hello) and tag them, thereby revealing who you are! Hopefully by that point, you’ve made a new friend 🙂
Do I have to make my person a gift?
NO! Making your secret santa assignment a gift is absolutely not mandatory and 100% optional extra fun. If you’re feeling creative and want to make something for your person (a video, a gifset, a photo edit, a poem, a ficlet, a playlist, etc.) that’s awesome! If you don’t, however, that’s totally fine and please don’t feel bad about not doing so! You can message them, send an ask, make a gift post and tag them – how you reveal yourself is completely up to you!

FYI, I realize that based on the timing and the name “Clexa Secret Santa” this event sounds very Christmasy, but it is totally 100% non-denominational! Everyone and anyone should feel encouraged to participate!
