Clexa Movie Adaptation Fics

Howdy you sweet beautiful bastards! For this list, I am focusing on Clexa fics that are adapted from movies. Some of these follow the movie closely and others take the idea and adapt it to Clexa. I scoured AO3 to find as many as I could and these are the ones that I enjoyed. Without further ado:

My Best Friend’s Wedding by southernmiss, Adapted from “My Best Friend’s Wedding”. Clarke is in love with her best friend Lexa, who is getting married to Costia. Can Clarke win Lexa’s heart before it’s too late? You want angst? Here, take this angst! I am team angst all day long so I loved this fic. We get both Jealous Clarke and Jealous Lexa. Plus, there are some nice fluffy scenes between the two. This takes the idea of the movie and does a fantastic job adapting it to Clexa.

You’ve Got Mail (She Loves Me) by @orangeyouglad8 adapted from “You’ve Got Mail”. Another great adaptation that takes the idea of the movie and perfectly adapts the story for Clexa. Clarke owns a neighborhood bookstore and Lexa opens a rival mega bookstore around the corner. They each find solace in their online penpal (email pal?). The dramatic irony is perfection and plays wonderfully with the narrative. Nice amount of angst and slow burn.

Anytime I Want by @commanderbuffy adapted from “Sweet Home Alabama”. Clarke, successful New York designer, is set to marry Finn. The only problem is that she needs to get a divorce from her wife, Lexa. This follows the plot of the movie closely but is so much better. The chemistry and banter between Clarke and Lexa is electrifying. The author does a fantastic job of adapting the characterizations to fit Clexa. Loads of fun. (Side note: the author also started a Legally Blonde fic that is a WIP)

How to Lose Someone in 10 Days by @jaansche , adapted from “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”. Oh, this is a fun one. Player Clarke is bet by Raven that she can make anyone fall in love with her in 10 days. Lexa needs to write a fluff piece about losing someone in 10 days in order to further her career. Too bad these two knuckleheads fall for each other immediately. Raven and Anya are great and there are plenty of funny moments. The plot is well developed beyond the movie and serves a good portion of drama.

Pie in the Sky by @LingeringLilies, adapted from “Waitress”. Clarke is stuck in a loveless marriage, a dead end job, and with an unwanted pregnancy. She finds comfort in baking and the company of her doctor, Lexa. This is a somewhat fluffy fic that deals with very serious issues, such as domestic abuse and grief. Clarke and Lexa learn how to heal each other and move on from their pasts. The ending is beautiful.

A Flower’s Dare by @beecharmerwrites , adapted from “Imagine Me and You”. Clarke is getting married and Lexa is her florist. Sometimes it only takes one look to fall. This fic follows the movie very closely. What it does well is provide the narrative behind each girl’s feelings. If you love Imagine Me and You, you will enjoy this fic. (Although I dare you not to hear Piper Perabo screaming “you’re a wanker number nine!”)

You’re Ex-Lover is Dead and The Loneliness and the Scream by adreamaloud, daneorange, adapted from “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. These two one-shots are based on the basic idea of the movie: the ability to completely erase someone from your mind. Lexa must come back to town for Abby’s funeral and face Clarke, who has erased Lexa from her mind. I really enjoyed these but they cannot be described as happy fics. The ending leaves it up to the reader to decide what happened – similar to how the movie leaves it open. (Side Note: the author has a two part Pretty Woman adaptation but I did not read those because they are not Clexa endgame, although from the comments people did enjoy them)

Just Go With It and Blended by @silent-rain91 adapted from “Just Go With It” and “Blended”. In “Just Go With It”, Lexa and Clarke pretend to be fake ex-wives and end up taking a vacation together. In “Blended”, Clarke and Lexa aren’t big fans of each other but somehow end up on the same reservation at a hotel. These are two fun fics that are light and easy to read. They remind me of something you would read by the pool or the beach.

EDIT: It has come to my attention that I did not include the following fic in my original list. I had considered it a book adaptation rather than a movie adaptation. But I am all for appreciating our authors, especially one of my all-time favorites. I hope she forgives my oversight.

Those Icy Fingers Up and Down My Spine by @dreamsaremywords adapted from “Harry Potter”. What can I possibly say about this that hasn’t been said? How about: I am not a fan of the HP books (only the movies) but I am currently doing my second read through of this fic. Yes, I just insinuated that this fic is better than any of the original HP books (come at me bro). This is a hall of fame Clexa fic that everyone needs to read.

EDIT 2: Well, again, my sincerest apologies. I guess my folders aren’t as organized as I thought. Please accept my humble mistakes.

The Curious Case of Alexandra Forrest by @orangeyouglad8 adapted from “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”. Lexa ages backwards and Clarke never backs down from a challenge. I loved this one-shot. The Clexa scenes are beautiful and my heart ached knowing what was happening. This is a fantastic read and left me wanting more. (Side note: she also wrote a The Adjustment Bureau AU Your Love Is a Waiting Game)

UPDATE: Here is another work that I recently read and enjoyed:

Mrs. & Mrs. Woods by @knich94 adapted from “Mr & Mrs Smith”. Clarke and Lexa are married but are stuck in a rut. They are also each hiding a deadly secret. Things become heated when they both quite literally end up in each other’s crosshairs. This follows the movie well and is adapted nicely for Clexa. Must read for the house destruction scene (wink wink).
